Let it snow, Let it snow (but only on the weekdays)

This is my first blog attempt. I've told Dan that this isn't my kind of thing because I'm not creative enough...but he is very busy with other things and this is one of the few things I can help him keep caught up with.

We made the long trip out to Kansas this week; we have meetings in Kansas through the month of December and will be living with my parents. YEAH! Now, I knew it would be cold and even possibly snowy here, but I wasn't expecting it so soon. This is just our second day here, and it has been snowing all day long. Kayla doesn't have a winter coat yet or snow boots or a snowsuit -- I haven't had time to hit the thrift shops yet; but it's not like she's old enough to be outside for a long time at fifteen months anyway so I say "let it snow, let it snow, let it snow" (but only on the weekdays).

My mom is a para-educator at the public school in town, and my sister goes to a Christian school in a nearby town. I don't know who was most excited (me, Kayla, Mom, or Karen) when we got word this morning that school had been canceled because a snowstorm was expected in the next few hours. The weatherman got this one right although it seems that we are getting more than he forecast. I think he only forecast four to eight inches. We are all hoping school will be canceled tomorrow too. To a native Virginia reader, that statement might seem ridiculous because just a dusting of snow on the roads shuts things down. They have more equipment and resources out here so we'll see if they can get the roads clear once the snow stops.

Obviously, we don't want snow on the weekends because we desire to keep our meetings that we have scheduled. Dan and I are praying that the roads will be clear for Saturday evening so we can drive to our meeting and Sunday so church isn't canceled. It's out of our control, though, so we'll just enjoy what God has sent our way. I must say that listening to Christmas music feels more festive when you can look out the window and see snow falling. "The weather outside is frightful and the fire so delightful" -- well, we don't actually have a fire going because Nana is worried about Kayla getting curious about the no-no. We've been training her not to even touch the fireplace at all, but you know how it is with young kids and no-nos especially after they see the fire in it which will definitely interest their curious little minds. (or is it just my child that doesn't obey completely every time after she's been told not to touch something that really interests her). Definitely better to be safe than sorry...we'll at least get a fire going after Kayla goes to bed.

Below are a couple of pictures of Kayla and I in the snow. We could hardly get her to look at the camera because she was so enthralled with the snow. She kept wanting down so she could touch it.

How's the weather for those of you reading this? Anyone else get snow?

It was 80 here today, but windy and drizzly at times. I hear it's going to be in the 50's though over the weekend. I'm jealous. I love snow once or twice during the winter! We hardly ever get to wear sweaters!

Wow,
I am a little jealous that you get snow there in Kansas. I am hoping that eventually some snow will happen here and we can capitalize on a snow day as well!!!!! It sounds like you are having fun at Mom and Dad's house. I will see you in a couple of weeks!!

Karis,
I would have loved to have seen Kayla's face when she first saw the snow! I hope that when we go to NH for Christmas we will have some snow, but it is nice to be able to leave it behind and come back to VA. I will be praying about traveling safety!

Same-o in Virginia! It is getting colder and Kristen have already been discussing the possibilities of a snow day, but not likely! Here's hoping! Nice job on your first post, Karis! Not bad with pics and everything!

Kayla,

You look so cute in your snow suit. Nana picked out the perfect color for you. Grammy is so happy that you love the snow. Maybe we can pray that God gives us lots when you come for a visit in January. I hope you have lots of fun with Nana and Papa.

Love and kisses,
Grammy
